SEASON SO FAR

Written on Monday, 8th June 2015

So far we have enjoyed a very satisfactory flat season, highlighted by NOT SO SLEEPY’S Dee Stakes Win (listed) and VENT DE FORCE’S victory in The Henry II Stakes (Group 3). Both horses are being aimed at Ascot – NOT SO SLEEPY will go for the Tercentary and VENT DE FORCE the Gold Cup for which he is third favourite with some bookmakers..  Other runners could include: the impressive Salisbury winner, FUN MAC , (Ascot Stakes);  ARAB DAWN (Duke of Edinburgh) and CHIL THE KITE who will have another crack at the Hunt Cup, a race in which he was an unlucky second last year.

No blog should omit mentioning the impressive Derby winner, GOLDEN HORN.  A great triumph for all involved especially the owner/breeder Anthony Oppenheimer, who has supported the racing industry so strongly.  To think GOLDEN HORN was offered at the October Sales as a yearling only twenty months ago and was lead out unsold £190000gns.  A not insignificant  sum but maybe not that large when the sales average was over £200.000!  Mr Oppenheimer certainly knew the value of his horse….There will be a few buyers who were lucky enough to have £200k to spend who will be revisiting their catalogues to see what they missed.  Will heads roll?

Hopefully GOLDEN HORN will establish himself as the pre-eminent horse of 2015, before being retired to stud, where on looks alone, he should prove very popular.
