MERRY CHRISTMAS

Written on Tuesday, 20th December 2011

As 2011 draws to a close we can reflect on a very satisfactory and enjoyable Year.  This time last year we looked short of stars, but the horses proved otherwise.  PISCO SOUR, though only 15.1, not only trained on but improved significantly to be an impressive winner at Royal Ascot, and then go on again to win a G2 in France.  He was then sold to Dubai, and we are really looking forward to seeing him perform there this winter.  SAGRAMOR was the real fairy story by not only winning the highly competitive and valuable Betfred at Haydock in May, but then going on to win one of the most competitive Handicaps of the season, The Brittania at Royal Ascot - what a fabulous result for the small Owner/Breeder!

PASTORAL PLAYER who ran with credit all season in all the major 6/7f handicaps came good in the most valuable one at Ascot on October 1st.  Every winner gives the team at Summerdown untold pleasure not least when they are ridden by our own Apprentice and Amateurs.  Nicola Dumelow rode her first winner and followed up in October, whilst Robert Pooles won the Amateur Derby at Epsom.

Our two year olds also performed with credit with Coquets' Listed win at Newmarket in October a real late season highlight.

An interesting fact is the brilliant DUNADEN (winner of the Melbourne Cup etc) is sired by NICOBAR who was bred at The Fonthill Stud, and his nephew INTREPID JACK (winner of The Hackwood (G3)) has just arrived in France to join his uncle for the 2012 covering season.

From the Yards point of view life carries on with a great team of staff headed up by Head Girl, Susannah Procter, ably assisted by Robert Latham, whilst Andy Dare & Tom Pirie handle all the travelling very proficiently and Jane Bexx performs miracles in the office!

A very Happy Crhistmas and New Year to you All!
